WHY NATURAL HANDCRAFTED SOAP? What is soap? Soap made from a combination of oils, an alkali (such as lye) and water. When they are combined a chemical reaction is formed which changes the oils into soap and glycerin. No lye is present in the finished bars of soap, but glycerin which is naturally formed is present as a gentle emollient along with the cleansing soap. Most commercial companies remove the glycerin and sell it separately. Soap vs. synthetic detergent. If the bar of "soap" on the store shelf does not say it is soap, it is usually made of detergents. Essential Oils vs. fragrance oils and additives Some handcrafted soaps are made with fragrance oils, which are more likely to cause a sensitivity than natural essential oils. Essential oils are the fragrance emitting components of the plant and are used in aromatherapy. Read the label to see if there is fragrance oil or essential oils present. What is super fatting? Super fatting is when there is an excess of oils to lye, which ensures that there is no excess alkali in the soap, resulting in a milder bar. It also provides added emollients to the finished bar. Why goat's milk? Goat's milk is particularly rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals and has natural ability to moisturize. Handcrafted Soap vs. Commercial Soap One of the big reasons for buying handcrafted soap is because of the glycerin which is left in the handcrafted soap. Most soapers make the soap in small batches, with lots of attention to each batch and bar. And the best part... You are supporting a small, local business. Below is a list of our soaps that we have in stock with the current price of each item. If an item has a picture box to the right of it you may click on the box to view that particular item. |
