Soap made from a combination of oils, an alkali (such as lye) and water. When they are combined a chemical reaction is formed which changes the oils into soap and glycerin. No lye is present in the finished bars of soap, but glycerin which is naturally formed is present as a gentle emollient along with the cleansing soap. Most commercial companies remove the glycerin and sell it separately.
