about us
The Spinning Bunny is located in a small rural town in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. The company was started after Nancy learned to spin and acquired her original German Angora rabbits. German Angora rabbits were originally bred in Germany to a standard of "ease in shearability and high production of wool." We have been breeding since for a high quality of German and German Hybrid/Cross rabbits and offspring have found their way from the East Coast to the West Coast.

Our rabbits live in clean individual cages in a bright, airy barn protected from weather and predators. Every 3-4 months they have a "haircut" to produce the luscious, feather-lite, super-insulating, angora fibers that go into our angor/wool blend spinning fibers. The angora fibers are mixed with either Merino wool (Merino sheep produce the softest finest wool with lots of crimp.) or Polworth wool (a breed found in Australia and New Zealand that produces wool second only in softness to Merino) and sometimes added silk to produce a blend of 30% angora/70% wool (wool/silk). The result is a fiber that spins into a yarn that is light in weight, very warm, with a fuzzy angora halo, the memory of wool (Memory is the property that allows woolen garments to retain their shape instead of "growing" when worn.) and that drapes well when knitted or woven. Our spinning fiber blends are known for their unique color combinations.

We started making soap because of Nancy's eczema and very dry skin. Our handmade soaps are all created from a vegetable oil base, some with added essential oils for scent and some with herbs. The hand cream, which was added later, is non-greasy and great just before you sit down to spin those very fine fibers or after you've been gardening. We try to keep the products as natural as possible because of skin allergies; all ingredients are marked on the labels.
